A striking screenprint poster produced for a special ‘Big Screen Classics’ screening of Planet of the Apes at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, 320 East Sixth Street, Austin, Texas, on Sunday April 20, 2008. The artwork is credited to artist Slater, with printing by D&L. The design features a large portrait of an ape rendered entirely in a dense typographic halftone technique — the image is built up from repeating pseudo-hieroglyphic or abstract geometric characters in two shades of red, printed over a vivid yellow background, creating a striking op-art effect when viewed up close. The color palette of bright yellow, red, and dark maroon is bold and immediately arresting, evoking both the psychedelic 1960s era of the original film and mid-century pulp sci-fi aesthetics. The title ‘Planet of the Apes’ is set in large, heavily stylized retro display lettering across the bottom. This is a genuine event poster from the golden era of Alamo Drafthouse specialty screenings, which are now highly collectible among both film memorabilia and gig poster enthusiasts. A superb example of typographic illustration art applied to classic cinema promotion.
No visible folds, tears, pinholes, or foxing apparent from the photos. Poster appears to be in excellent, unfolded condition. Two clip/peg marks visible at top edge from display hanging but these appear minor and may not affect the poster itself.
