A striking limited-edition screen print concert poster promoting ‘Our Planet Is A Blue Planet,’ an event held on the 12th and 13th of April 2008 at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff. Created by The Bird Machine (thebirddmachine.com) out of Chicago, this is a beautifully executed multi-colour screen print featuring three deep-sea creatures: a light blue long-jawed gulper eel or similar elongated fish with an open mouth full of teeth, an orange anglerfish with a characteristic lure, and a yellow-green octopus rendered with expressive, almost cartoonish character. The navy blue background gives the composition a rich, atmospheric underwater quality. The hand-lettered typography is integrated seamlessly into the design. This is print number 269 from a limited edition of 350, hand-signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right margin. The poster exemplifies the golden era of indie gig poster art, combining bold graphic illustration with letterpress-style typography.
