An original Italian locandina (cinema insert poster) for the 1968 20th Century Fox psychological drama ‘The Magus,’ released in Italy as ‘Gioco Perverso’ (Perverse Game). The film starred Michael Caine and Anthony Quinn, with Candice Bergen and Anna Karina, directed by Guy Green and based on the novel by John Fowles, who also wrote the screenplay. This Prima Edizione Italiana (First Italian Edition) is dated Anno 1968, printed in Italy by Lito P. Ragioni, Rome.
The artwork is a striking grid-based composition, presenting the central male protagonist’s face — rendered in bold painterly strokes with piercing blue eyes — fragmented across a mosaic of red, black, and skin-toned panels. Interspersed are smaller photographic stills from the film and a teal-tinted portrait of Anthony Quinn. A cruciform theatrical figure appears at the top right. The design is dynamic and psychedelic in spirit, highly characteristic of late-1960s European film poster art. The colourful hand-lettered title typography and the use of Panavision Colore de Luxe branding complete the period aesthetic.
This locandina format (approximately 33x70cm) is a sought-after size among Italian cinema poster collectors. A visually compelling piece for fans of 1960s European film art, John Fowles, or the cast.
Visible horizontal and vertical fold lines consistent with standard locandina storage. Some creasing and surface scuffing visible in lower black panel area. Minor wrinkling in lower centre section. No visible tears, pinholes, tape residue, or significant foxing apparent from photos.
