A striking limited-edition screen print concert poster for an event titled ‘Our Planet Is A Blue Planet,’ held on 20th April 2008 at Manchester Central. The poster was designed and printed by The Bird Machine (dot com) out of Chicago, and is numbered and hand-signed in pencil in the lower right margin — this example being number 269 from an edition of 350.
The design features a minimalist, sketch-style illustration of a polar bear curled up and viewed from above, rendered in grey on a cream ground against a pale sky-blue field. The bear’s form is cleverly ambiguous — at first glance it reads almost as a floating iceberg or rock, making the environmental message subtly powerful.
